That person could be your conscience or it could be another human being waiting to escape or be discovered within you.

I think it's about those times when someone is mad at you and keeps talking to you and the more you ask for a minute to calm yourself and reply, they just say more, and eventually you just break and lose it.
With You
This song is such a good explination to many relationships out there that are either extremely one sided or have ended with someone not being able to let go of their ex partner....
Points of Authority
I think this is a song on the bitterness of a break-up.. a power struggle b/n the victim and the victimised. it's as if the girl thinks she's the best and she has almost no qualms abt hurting anything. on the other hand, the guy is feeling too traumatised and hurt, hence the violent lashing out.
Crawling
A lot of what Chester is singing about are side effects of taking methamphetamines - a drug he used throughout his teens. The anxiety, hallucinations and a feeling of things crawling under his skin.
Runaway
This song is the follow-up to Crawling. It's about escaping someone who is torturing them. They then speak of opening their mind to see what the outside world is like, and not the protective barrier that the someone else mentioned has erected. Not much of Mike, unfortunately., but Chester makes up for it, screaming:

This song is about how everything the singer tries to do backfires, and he is afraid because no matter what he tries, something else will come back to haunt him.
In The End
I actually think that this song has multiple meanings. Some say that it is about a failed relationship, while others suggest a last-call suicide note. Both suggestions fit well with the lyrics, with evidence on each side. In Verse (II), [he] sings Despite the way you were mocking me / Acting like I was part of your property / Remembering all the times you fought with me / I'm surprised it got so far / . . . . You wouldn't even recognize me anymore / Not that you knew me back then/.In my eyes and ears, it seems like [he] is explaining possible issues with a relationship. But also throughout the song, his choruses, can be seen as a last resort way of ending everything-- suicide. If someone talks about "trying so hard" or "in the end it doesn't even matter" then it seems like someone is giving up hope because, literally, in the end, it won't matter because I will be dead.
A Place For My Head
It tells how someone is losing complete and total control of their mind. Someone has driven them totally insane and they can't take it anymore. It also tells of how someone has longed for something that they haven't gotten because they feel that would be better for them. This song also talks about how some people only do favors for others to get something in return.
Forgotten
This song is talking about how someone did something wrong in their life or something bad happened to them like a death of a loved one or depression etc. Then they try to look for a solution. But in the end, the so-called solution ends up screwing up his/her life even more.
Cure For The Itch
It's a joke. There is loads of vinyl-scratching that this is the 'cure for any itch' ie. lots of 'scratching'. It's just a mess-around session with Joe Hahn.
Pushing Me Away
This song is about a guy who only feels pain when he is with a girl who he used to love. He still loves her but something has happened that causes him pain when he is with her. In the Live In Texas version it says, "When I look into your eyes there's nothing left to see, nothing but my own mistakes staring back at me." This refers to how he can only see how much pain he has inflicted on someone he loves when he looks at her. He can't stand that feeling anymore.
Foreword
Mike Shinoda: "Foreword is just an intro. If you know what Foley work is, it's my first attempt at Foley work. Basically, it's noises I made in the studio breaking things. We have this CD player and CD burner attached to my computer, which basically just ate s--t during the writing process. It gave Chester and I such a hard time! Burning CDs which should have taken a minute were taking 20 minutes, 30 minutes, to an hour. I just got so frustrated with the thing, I put it to the side knowing that I was going to beat it with a baseball bat and that's what I did. I smashed it with a baseball bat on metal table."
Don't Stay
It is yet another anger and angst-filled rocker by the group, this time dealing with changing emotions between a boy and girlfriend or a breakup. It's one of those songs to capture the feeling of a large amount of effort and work ending up being a waste.

This is about someone who feels out of place and alone, with nothing to say due to his own fault.
Lying From You
This song is about a criminal who is running away from his girlfriend because he is a bad influence on her: "The very worst part of you... is me."
Hit The Floor
I think this song is about someone trying to put the singer down, trying to make themselves feel better by lowering another person self-esteem but the singer knows that what goes up has to fall so they are waiting for the moment to topple this opressive person.
Easier To Run
This is about someone who has a secret - something he wishes he could change. That person would rather run away then deal with his problems because it is just too hard.

The song is about being ignored by everyone and making yourself heard.

This song is about his girlfriend becoming metaphorically a part of him, merging with him. He is a little pissed off about this, so he is saying 'gimme my space back'.
Breaking The Habit
This is about someone who has the tendency to do things to hurt himself physically and mentally."Clutching my cure, I tightly lock the door"- The cure for emotional pain is to cause physical pain. You all assume I'm safe here in my room unless I try to start again"- this means he spends a lot of time in his room, where everyone thinks he can't do anything to hurt himself, but little do they know that he could at any time start hurting himself without them knowing. He regrets all the things he has done or had done to him in the past and he constantly picks himself apart for it. "I don't wanna be the one the battles always choose cause inside I realize I'm the one confused," is saying he gets a lot of problems thrown at him and he doesn't understand why this always seems to happen to him.
From The Inside
The song is about someone you trusted has betrayed you. Now you can't trust on anyone else for fear of betrayal.

This song... It makes me think of a nightmare... mainly because of the title. So at the start its really quiet... it's a peaceful snooze, and then as the instruments get louder, the nightmare starts to build up and everything goes nuts... and as the instruments quiet down again the person wakes up.
Given Up
Similar to early Linkin Park songs like "In The End," the lead character in this song feels alienated and desperate.
Leave Out All The Rest
This song is about a man looking for redemption from his past mistakes. He knows he has hurt people and made some poor choices, and now he wants to be forgiven.
Bleed It Out
This song seems to have a double meaning. I think it's either about how everything from news and music and movies are flooded with violence and death. And how we can't escape the dangers of the world and nothing will make a difference
Shadow Of The Day
More mellow than previous Linkin Park songs, this seems to be about someone thinking about a friend who is suffering, most likely from depression or a physical illness. He talks about how sometimes it is easier to just stop trying, even though everyone wants you to push onward. Life isn't nearly as simple as it seems, and sometimes giving up is the best solution. Or I think it's about Chester Bennington has the only vocal part on this, and he sings about how the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey and the sun will set for you. This is where he is talking about how eventually, everything ends. To dust you shall return (that's where the world is embraced in grey; death is here and you're going back to being the dust of the earth). The sun sets, the day is over - your life is done. The shadow of the day refers to what happens when a person dies - only their memory is left. Their memory is the shadow of their life.
What I've Done
In this song, Chester Bennington sings about things we've done that we regret - how we want to forget it all and move on.

This song speaks out against the US government under the Bush administration, and is a call for citizens to take action. Issued addressed include The Iraq war, the disparity between rich and poor, and gas prices.

Very easy song to interpret. He is clearly talking to Bush, and possible other world leaders about everything they have done wrong. The lies, deceit, etc.

Its all about...the feeling of someone who lost his or her lover........how he/she is feeling on that special occasion......when the special person should be around, but he/she is not. A deep sense of loneliness is coming out of the song.

I think the character behind this song is trying to express that, he was torn between the person he was and the person he knew he should be...who the other person(in the relationship) wanted him to be...but his pride and his teetering actions got in his way. and that every past promise, every past truth, and every past effort was only partially genuine. and now, he finally realizes that his pride wasnt worth risking everything...and he is apologizing for it... and he wishes there is something he could say or do... to regain the others trust...he wishes he could explain his past actions...but he cant...and as much as he doesnt want to admit it, he knows that it is too late. regardless, even with a lack of word or reason...he states a hopeless plea..."im sorry."
In Pieces
Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington: "I got divorced recently and that was very difficult. I also got remarried so there was a big contrast in my life. For a while I couldn't be completely happy with the new life I was starting and I couldn't end the last one. This is a song about all of that."
The Little Things Give You Away
This song deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and its effect on the city of New Orleans. The band finished this song after visiting New Orleans after the hurricane hit.
